I'm very pleased to announce that Disney has just purchased 16 brand new ukuleles, which means that grades 6, 7, and 8 will be hula-ing into a unit all about these wonderful instruments! Every student will have their own ukulele to work with in music class, and they couldn't be more excited! We will spend weeks 1 and 2 getting acquainted with the ukuleles and learning about their history in Hawaii, then we will spend weeks 3-5 learning how to play a Hawaiian melody on the open strings. Beginning in week 6, we will learn how to read melodies for the ukulele using traditional music notation on the treble clef staff, and will compose our own short melodies to perform. At the end of the quarter, we'll begin learning chords on the ukulele. Hopefully once we're done, your student will be well on their way to being ukulele superstars!
