3rd graders have been progressing nicely with the recorders, and we are going to focus hard on making sure 3rd graders are pros at B, A, and G before summer. We have mastered the notes B and A, and will be jumping into G in the first few weeks of the quarter. Also during the first quarter, we are going to expand our knowledge of solfege to include Fa and Ti, meaning that we'll be singing full octave ranges. During weeks 5-7, we will begin expanding our practice with BAG on the recorder into improvisation and composition exercises, and we will learn to read our recorder music from the treble clef staff. For the last few weeks of the year, we are going to review everything we've learned throughout the year to make sure we're ready for 4th grade music next year!
3rd graders have been very excited to begin learning how to play the recorders in January. We have been focusing on the first note B and learning the proper technique of recorder playing. In the 3rd quarter, we will be continuing our focus on the note B for the first 3 weeks, then in week 4 we will be adding A into the mix. At the end of the quarter, we'll be sneaking in G as well! In addition to recorders, we're turning our focus to rhythms again as well. During weeks 1-4 we'll be learning about 16th notes, and then beginning in week 5 we will be learning to read music in a more traditional format and talking about the structures of written music.
