We have had a productive October in 4th grade! We learned solfege syllables Sol, La, and Mi while singing Rain Dance, and we also learned to play the melody on the xylophone. We spent some time working on a chant called Improvisation, and the students used the xylophone to improvise their own melody to the rhythm of the poem. We're continuing to practice reading rhythms and identifying musical form while singing Old House, and soon we're going to compose and perform our own rhythms to add to the song! Coming up, we're continuing our practice of Sol, La, and Mi with a Spanish lullaby called Duerme, Mi Tesoro, and later this month we will add Do to our solfege singing!
